The Purpose _

Designed to offer riders a more sustainable option in the highly versatile, mid-depth carbon road wheel category without compromising on performance. The Sustain Phase One 42 Carbon Disc wheel provides quick acceleration and low rotational weight on climbs and rolling terrain, while still benefitting from the aerodynamic gains offered by a 42mm-deep, U-shaped carbon rim profile. Recycled carbon fibre (an industry first) in the outer rim and rim hook construction increases impact resistance, for the rough and broken roads that link your favourite rides together.

Optimised for 25mm-35mm tyres for fast road riding and racing, increasingly popular all-road terrain, as well as gravel riding (ETRTO compatible with tyres ranging from 25mm-50mm). The all-new HUNT Europa H_Ratchet Ti hubset features a one-piece, machined grade 5 titanum freehub with a 36-tooth stainless steel inner ratchet ring to offer 10-degrees of reliable engagement. ‘Forever bike’ approved.

Designed to offer mid-depth aero performance, low weight and steadfast reliability, while reducing environmental impact at every stage of the production process.

Recycled Carbon Fibre Content - The 42 Carbon Disc rims are comprised of 10% recycled content, while maintaining the same durability & performance riders have come to expect from HUNT upgrade wheels.

The recycled carbon fibre is sourced from specialist European recycled composites suppliers which recycle larger aerospace and automotive components, as well as off cuts from carbon fibre rim production. As far as the HUNT team is aware, this is the only manufacturer in the world currently creating rims with recycled carbon fibre content.

The recycled carbon fibre is processed into a dense fleece material that is applied in the moulding process to the outer rim and rim hook structure, improving multi-directional impact resistance. The rims are moulded with a wax core mandrel, using a unique Resin Transfer Molding method, rather than traditional resin-infused carbon fibre pre-preg, so the carbon offcuts can be easily recycled and do not require refrigerated storage. The wax core material can be melted and re-used in this process up to 20 times, offering significant reduction in waste compared to production methods using single-use silicone or EPS mandrels.

Zero Coated Spokes and Nipples – In an effort to reduce unnecessary usage of chemical processes and energy, these wheelsets are built with silver spokes and nipples. The process of coating a spoke or nipple offers no advantage for performance or durability (unlike anodizing alloy rims, which protects the surface) thus we’ve opted to build these wheels with as few electrochemical processes as possible.

For the Sustain Phase One 42 Carbon Disc, HUNT recommends a 25-35mm tyre for best performance, tire widths between 25mm and 50mm are also safe to use. You must not exceed the maximum tyre pressure limits set out in the table below or the maximum limit set by your tyre manufacturer if this is lower. You must not exceed the maximum pressure stated on your tyre. Note: best performance is usually gained by using tyre pressures lower than the maximum, you can see our blog post about this, read here. Tubeless-ready for lower weight and rolling resistance.

RIM BED

H-Lock is our tubeless-ready rim bed profile with up-kicks to the shoulders of the tubeless steps which help to create a great rim-well seal for first installation and easy sealing of tubeless tyres. The H-Lock profile also locks the beads in place more securely once seated. This is especially important when running lower pressures off road.

Stated wheel weights: Our stated wheel weights reflect the wheelset only; without rim tape, tubeless valves or disc brake lock rings, as is industry standard. A 3% variance (lower or higher) in total system weight is normal for wheelset manufacturing.

All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. Max system weight 130 kg (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If the system is over 120 kg then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly.
