HUNT Beyond at Atlas Mountain Race

After taking the win in the inaugural edition of the event, Beyond athlete Sofiane Sehili was back for another tilt at the Atlas Mountain race, joined by Marei Moldenhauer and Miron Golfman who were making their AMR debut. HUNT Beyond brand manager Josh Ibbett returned for his 3^rd start, alongside Becky Surridge and Alex McCormack representing HUNT via their bike sponsors.

The Atlas Mountain Race is always a highly competitive and close fought event, and our Beyond athletes were mixing it up in the top 20 in the first half of the race. Attrition is the name of the game in Morrocco with unforgiving terrain, harsh conditions and limited food options (omelette for breakfast, lunch and dinner anyone?) meaning many riders end up falling off the pace or scratching in the second half of the event. For Sofiane Sehili, it was an unfortunate scratch just before the halfway mark after a rock strike tore his rear derailleur in half, leaving him with a long walk to the nearest road.

Alex McCormack proved that he has both speed and resilience in abundance as he mixed it up at the front of the race and ultimately pulled away to take the win in a blistering time of 3 days and 20 hours.

Miron Golfman and Josh Ibbett enjoyed a good battle in the middle of the race, edging into the top 10 for some time before finally finishing in 13^th and 15^th position, while Becky, more focused on video and content creation than all out racing, finished in a little under 7 days. We can’t wait to see the video of her journey.

However, the real star of the show was Marei Moldenhauer, a new addition to the Beyond roster and taking part in her first ever mountain bike race. Marei rode with composure and determination sitting in the top 10 overall for the duration of the race, seemingly unphased by the inhospitable conditions Morrocco had to offer. She finished in a stunning 4 days and 14 hours to take to take the win in the women's field, finishing in 8^th position overall. Marei is an exciting talent and we can’t wait to see what else she’s able to achieve.
