At HUNT, we have spent years refining our aerodynamic shaping capabilities through rigorous wind tunnel testing. After recognising a gap in the market for affordable, high-performance wheels, we decided to bring these advanced aero concepts to alloy wheelsets - producing a product for the everyday rider.
In July 2019, we launched the first truly aero-optimised alloy wheelset, a new bench mark for the industry and the first time an alloy wheelset was proven to be faster in the wind tunnel than a carbon wheelset (Zipp 202 NSW) when paired with a modern 28mm tyre. This innovation was a game-changer for riders seeking aero performance without making the jump to carbon wheels. The 34 Aero Wide Disc was shaped leveraging the same technology and methodology developed for HUNT’s carbon fiber Aerodynamicist and Limitless ranges, leading to a wide, wind-cheating tubeless-ready rim profile optimized for efficiency with wider modern tyres. 6069-T6 aluminium alloy construction was chosen for its high strength-to-weight ratio (69% greater tensile strength vs 6061-T6), resulting in a lightweight wheel that feels responsive off the line or when the road tilts up. HUNT had raised the expectation of how an aluminium road wheelset can perform.
With updates and improvements along the way, the HUNT 34 Aero Wide SL is still impressing industry experts, having recently earned the "Best on Test" award from Cycling Plus in 2024.
