Have You Met...
Nick Wagenmann?

Nick Wagenmann isn’t just a cyclist—he’s a storyteller, an adventurer, and someone who has been part of the HUNT family for years. As one of our longest-standing brand ambassadors, Nick has been inspiring riders through his journey, his creativity, and his deep connection to the cycling community. In this interview, we dive into what makes Nick tick, his love for the ride, and the moments that have shaped his path.

The Journey and Love for Cycling

HUNT: Take us back to the start—when did you first fall in love with cycling?

Nick: I always loved to ride bikes. MTB, BMX you name it. But at some point I lost sight of bicycles. When my father started working with riders from the World Tour and the sport was very present at home again, I slowly got back into it. To summarise, I would say that I have loved all kinds of cycling since my early childhood and after a long break I found my way back into road cycling through my father.

HUNT: What’s a childhood memory on the bike that still sticks with you?

Nick: Definitely riding around Stanley Park in Vancouver when my brothers and I were just children with rental bikes and ending up sharing one huge sandwich at the English Bay.

HUNT: How has your relationship with cycling evolved over the years?

Nick: A lot has changed for me over the last years. In the last few years in particular, cycling has become something I wanted to do, but I've always felt some kind of pressure from outside to do it so that I don't fall behind. At one point, my relationship with cycling was certainly toxic, but over the last few months, I’ve realised again what I love about it and what I really enjoy and benefit from mentally.

HUNT: What keeps you coming back to the bike, no matter what?

Nick: The feeling of riding your bike. Even on days when you've only been riding into a headwind for 3 hours, I realize with just 5 minutes of tailwind what brings me back again and again. That feeling when it's rolling- it´s simply incomparable.

Life as a Content Creator & Community Builder

HUNT: When did you realise that sharing your rides and stories could inspire others?

Nick: I was always into to creating and posting content, but when I started showing and telling more about myself really, I quickly realized that most of the stuff I did resonated with others. I got more and more feedback and interactions that’s when I started showing more of my lifestyle and the things I enjoy.

HUNT: What’s been the most unexpected or rewarding part of building an audience around cycling?

Nick: Getting to know so many people. And I’m not only talking about the tons of people you have chat with online, but the ones you meet in real life. You quickly realize that there are so many people out there who you share the same passion with. You connect so quickly and meet so many different beautiful souls.

HUNT: You’ve been part of the HUNT family for years—what does that connection mean to you?

Nick: The connection means a lot. Hunt wheels were my first carbon wheelset ever. To partner up with a brand that had a major stake in everything that I’ve built, and the past years means a lot to me. To officially represent a brand that helped me to get where I am today without them knowing in the first place is something else.

Adventures & Unforgettable Moments

HUNT: What’s one of the wildest or most memorable rides you’ve ever done?
Nick: Definitely a ride in Switzerland with my cousin Freddi. We were way too chill in terms of starting time for a 6 hour ride over Lukannier Pass, Gotthartpass and Oberalppass and realised at some point that it's getting dark and cold way quicker in the Alps than at home in Cologne. It was a route we were talking about for years and finally made it happen in 2021 – so super happy. Managed to come home safe where my grandparents already had Raclette waiting for us.
HUNT: If you could go on a dream bikepacking trip anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Nick: I would really love to explore Morocco on a bike. It looks and sounds so beautiful.
HUNT: What’s been your biggest “oh sh*t” moment on the bike, and how did you get through it?
Nick: I remember a group ride on a sunny Thursday afternoon. Went through a right corner at third position and all of a sudden, a car appeared, and I just remember losing my bike and seeing the car driving towards me while sliding on my back towards it. We both came to a standstill cm’s before each other and nothing happened – Remember thinking “OH SHIT that was a close call”
The Personal Side

HUNT: What does a perfect day look like for you—on or off the bike?
Nick: Getting up, feeding my cats, making some hand brew coffee and cereals. Hopping on a bike and going on a ride through “Bergisches Land” and finishing off at a coffee place with a flat white and a grilled cheese sandwich. All this while already missing my cats and finally coming back to them just to find them sleeping.
HUNT: Outside of cycling, what are some of your biggest passions or hobbies?
Nick: Outside of cycling I really enjoy skiing. I’ve been standing on skis for as long as I can remember and really love to enjoy the cold white mountains by going ski touring with my brothers and cousins.
HUNT: If you weren’t riding bikes and creating content, what do you think you’d be doing?
Nick: As I also work full time, I guess next to my job I could see myself skiing or riding motocross.

Looking Ahead & Final Thoughts

HUNT: What excites you most about the future—whether in cycling, content, or life in general?

Nick: I’m excited to start off on a different foot than in 2024. I did too much stuff I didn’t enjoy and thought I was required to do over the last couple of years. I’m much looking forward to riding my bikes more because I enjoy it to the fullest and not because I think I must.

HUNT: If you could give one piece of advice to someone looking to share their own cycling journey, what would it be?

Nick: Do you! Get inspired but stay you. If you feel like doing something, do it, if not, don’t. Do what you enjoy, what makes you flourish.

HUNT: What’s one thing most people don’t know about you but should?

Nick: I’m super insecure, love peonies and painting.

HUNT: Many thanks Nick, for this in-depth chat!
