Crossing Borders: A Ride
with Friends, Freedom and Endless Gratitude.

Last weekend, we rode not just across landscapes but through the essence of what it means to be part of a connected cycling community. Together with our friends from Schicke Mütze, Albion, and Off The Map, we embarked on a journey from Düsseldorf to Maastricht — a ride that turned into a powerful reminder of the freedom we often take for granted.

Riding Through Borders, Embracing Unity

In times when political landscapes can feel divisive, the simple act of crossing a border without friction carries weight. It’s easy to forget the privilege of riding from one country to another, sharing the road with friends old and new, all bound by a love of cycling. As we pedaled through sunlit fields and winding paths, the border between Germany and the Netherlands faded into irrelevance — a symbol of the unity we cherish as Europeans and as cyclists.

The Gathering: Bikes, Mates, and Morning Sunshine

The ride kicked off in front of Schicke Mütze, where 40 excited riders gathered, buzzing with anticipation. HUNT wheels were spinning, Albion kit was gleaming, and the sun, a rare guest this early in the year, decided to grace us with its presence. Our two-group formation worked perfectly, allowing for relaxed conversations, spontaneous sprint surges, and the inevitable mid-ride wardrobe adjustments as temperatures rose.

A Route Built for Adventure

The route, meticulously planned by Konrad, served up a bit of everything: silky-smooth cycle paths, rugged gravel sections, and enough punchy climbs to keep things spicy. It was a true all-road experience, proving that anything between 30–40mm tyres would feel right at home. Yes, we had punctures — four in total — but if anything, they added to the camaraderie, with impromptu roadside repair sessions turning into mini social gatherings.

Pit Stops, Banter, and Borderless Vibes

Cyril from Off The Map drove the support van, which doubled as a rolling snack bar, photo booth, and occasional laundry service. Every pause became a chance to chat, share snacks, and soak in the landscape. The feeling was unmistakable: we weren’t just on a ride; we were building something — a collective memory shaped by pedal strokes and laughter.

The Destination: Off The Map, Maastricht

Rolling into Maastricht, we were welcomed by the charm of Off The Map, a shop that perfectly embodies the intersection of cycling culture and community spirit. There was food, drinks, and talk of future rides — plans already swirling for an even bigger summer edition. And for those who hadn’t quite had enough, a handful of die-hards turned around and rode the full distance back to Düsseldorf, clocking a staggering 240km day.

The Takeaway: Gratitude and the Power of Community

It’s easy to get caught up in the mechanics of cycling — the gear, the stats, the endless pursuit of improvement. But rides like this strip things back to their core: the sheer joy of movement, the strength of friendships, and the rare magic of shared experience.

We’re grateful to John from Albion, Carsten and the Schicke Mütze crew, Cyril and Ruud from Off The Map, and everyone who joined. Thanks for reminding us why we do this — and why we can’t wait to do it again.

Let’s keep crossing borders, on bikes and in spirit.

See you on the next ride.
